VOLUNTEERS: OUR GREATEST NATURAL RESOURCE
The West Manchester Township Fire Department is searching for volunteers for the Fire Department. We are recruiting women and men of any age and any talent to assist the Department with many different tasks. The Department is recruiting :
Firefighters - Firefighters respond to emergency calls for structure fires, vehicle fires, brush fires, other types of fires and emergencies, motor vehicle accidents (for rescue and extrication) and residential and industrial rescue incidents.
Medical Personnel - The Fire Department responds to medical emergencies in the Township in assistance to the West York Ambulance Club. Persons who are Emergency Medical Technicians, First Responders, or with other medical background, or interested in being trained to these levels are able to respond to medical emergencies.
Clerical Personnel - The Fire Department has work for persons interested in data processing and various types of clerical work that will assist the Department officers with the paperwork and record keeping.
Fund Raising Persons - Individuals who would be interested in volunteering to assist with the fund raising projects such as bingo and food preparation.
Leaders - The Fire Department is searching for persons interested in becoming leaders in either the emergency service or the business side of the Department.
Historically, fire departments only recruited persons who would fight fires. As these persons grew older they would choose the direction of their participation through either the emergency service side or the business side of the departments. Many, unfortunately, would simply stop participating. Now persons can enter at any age and volunteer with whatever their time and talent is able to offer. Retired persons are a great potential resource for the fire department. If you are retired and looking for a way to continue to serve, through a community project, then the volunteer fire department is an ideal means of staying active and staying young.
The West Manchester Township Fire Department includes both the Lincolnway Fire Company and the Shiloh Fire Company. Persons interested in volunteering can contact either Company or call the Fire Chief, David W. Nichols at 792-3505. The Fire Department in West Manchester provides a very important service to the community. It is remarkable that this service can be provided by a volunteer organization. This can only continue if the residents of the Township give their time and volunteer to help. Please find a way to serve the community in this manner.
