WEST MANCHESTER TWP FILES PROTEST AT THE PUC ON SALE OF YORK CITY’S WASTEWATER SYSTEM TO PA AMERICAN

West Manchester Township and 4 other municipalities File Protest at the PUC on the sale of York City’s Wastewater System to Pennsylvania American Water Company (Pa American)

West Manchester Township, along with Spring Garden Twp., York Twp., Manchester Twp. and North York Borough have stated since first learning about the proposed sale of York City’s wastewater system, that we will do everything in our power to act in the best interest of our sewer customers.

As part of the process to protect our residents and surrounding municipal neighbors from excessive sewer rates, on July 20th, 2021, West Manchester Township submitted and served a protest with the Public Utility Commission (PUC) asserting, among other things that York City’s sale of their wastewater collection system to Pa American is not in the public interest.  Spring Garden Twp., York Twp., Manchester Twp. and North York Borough have also submitted and served a protest with the PUC.  A copy of the filing can be found here.

Although we have been recently informed that the complaint has been returned due to the fact that PA American has not submitted their acquisition application to the PUC, we will be filing again when appropriate.

The Township encourages our sewer customers to get involved by signing the petition and joining the mailing list at the www.YorkRegionalSewer.com  website.  Also, please continue to check the Township’s web page at www.westmanchestertownship.com regarding notices about a potential upcoming public meeting that will provide additional information on the potential impact of the sale and allow Township residents to voice their opinion.
